Tide & Reel app privacy policy

This policy covers the Tide & Reel: Tides & Fishing app for Android and iOS (formerly called Shorebite), made by the team behind shorebite.com. Last updated October 27, 2026.

The short version: the app has no accounts, no ads and no analytics or tracking. We don't collect, store or sell any personal information. Everything you enter stays on your phone.

Your location

If you allow it, the app uses your phone's location to find the tide stations and fishing spots nearest you. Your location is used on the phone and is never sent to us. To look up live weather and the fish recorded near a spot, the app sends the coordinates of that spot (not your identity) to the public data services listed below. You can say no to location and pick a station by name instead, and you can turn location off at any time in your phone's settings.

Your catch log, trips and favorites

Catches, photos you add to them, trip plans, reminders and favorite stations are saved only on your phone. We can't see them. They are deleted when you uninstall the app. Sharing, printing or adding a trip to your calendar only happens when you tap to do it, and goes to the app you choose.

Notifications

Tide and trip reminders are scheduled on your phone. No notification service or server is involved.

Public data services the app connects to

• NOAA Tides and Currents (api.tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov): official tide predictions for the station you open.
• US National Weather Service (api.weather.gov): forecasts and marine weather for the station's area.
• GBIF, the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (api.gbif.org): fish and wildlife records near a spot.

These are public government and scientific services. Like any website, they receive your phone's IP address when the app asks them for data. The app sends no account, name, email or device ID to them.

Purchases

You buy the app through Google Play or the Apple App Store. They handle the payment under their own privacy policies; we never see your card or account details.

Children

The app is not aimed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone.
