Razor clam tides: Washington and Oregon
Razor clams are dug on the lowest tides, in the hour or two before low water. Here are the coming clam tides (low tides at or below 0.5 ft) for each razor clam beach, from NOAA predictions. In Washington they're the afternoon and evening lows from October to mid-March and the morning lows after that, the tides WDFW picks its digs from.
These are tides, not openings. A beach is only open when the state says so, and openings are cancelled when marine toxins are high. Always check the official links for your state below before you go.

Washington
Check before you go: WDFW razor clam seasons. Washington digs only on days WDFW opens, after state marine toxin tests come back clean, usually a week or less before each series. Openings get postponed when domoic acid is high. You need a Washington razor clam license.

Oregon
Check before you go: ODFW Recreation Report and the ODA shellfish safety page (hotline 800-448-2474). Oregon needs a shellfish license. The limit is the first 15 clams dug, whatever their size or condition. North of Tillamook Head, razor clamming is closed July 15 to September 30 every year to protect young clams; biotoxin closures can come at any time.
Clatsop beaches
From the Columbia River south past Gearhart and Seaside to Tillamook Head: about 95% of Oregon's razor clamming. Times from the open-coast Columbia River entrance (N. Jetty) station.

Razor clam tips
Most clams are dug in the hour or two before low tide, as the water drops.
A dimple or hole in wet sand near the surf line marks a clam. Dig fast and on the ocean side.
The lower the tide, the more beach is uncovered. Minus tides are best; swell can spoil a good tide.
Domoic acid and PSP toxins can't be cooked out. Only dig when the state says the beach is open.
Times are local. Heights are feet above mean lower low water (MLLW); below zero is a minus tide. Predictions don't include swell or wind, which can keep the water higher. Season details come from WDFW and ODFW and can change; their pages are the final word. Not for navigation.
